The 1918 Spanish Influenza Pandemic-Influenza in Berkeley

INFLUENZA IS REPORTED IN BERKELEY

BERKELEY, Oct. 3-Three cases of Spanish Influenza in different sections of the city were reported today to the Berkeley Board of Health by local physicians.

The cases are:

James M. Pierce, proprietor of Cloyne Court, head of Ridge Road.

Miss Clara Freuler, daughter of John Freuler, Swiss consul of San Francisco, 2046 Russell street.

Fred E. Welch, carpenter, 1310 Sixth street.

None of the patients is in danger, according to Dr. J. J. Benton, Berkeley's health officer, who declares that every precaution is being taken to guard against a spread of the dread malady. The homes of all three patients have been placed under quarantine.

Miss Freuler is a grant opera singer of repute, and has appeared both in this country and abroad.
