RUSSIAN WAR HERO DIES OF PNEUMONIA
Israel Okno, 29 years old, a corporal in the Russian army, who had seen overseas fighting, died yesterday of pneumonia following an attack of Spanish influenza. Okno resided at 656 Ninth street. After receiving severe wounds in action with the Russian colors, he was sent to California by way of Siberia to convalesce. Eighteen months ago he entered the Oakland Evening High School, mastering the English language and contributing to many of the current magazines on war themes.
When the sons and Daughters of Washington was organized in Oakland, Okno was one of the founders and became the first secretary.
